Our Aussies are highly effective at this since they closely resemble their natural predators. When dealing with ponds, lakes, and other water sources, our dogs will either swim or join our experienced handlers in their kayak to get the geese to leave. We recommend at least 2 patrols a day, but will include additional patrols as needed at no extra charge. This is in order to condition the geese to think that the property is not a safe place to stay and to find another area to call home. Canada Geese have long since been a natural resource for hunters and bird watcher’s alike throughout New York State. By the 20th century, unregulated hunting caused the collapse of the species, almost to the point of extinction. Wildlife officials and amateur aviculturists decided to boost their numbers by breeding the birds and setting them free across the United States. They were even brought to new areas to see if they could establish a population there. This caused the rise of resident geese, which are geese that stay all year round. Unlike their ancestors that migrant to Canada during the breeding season, resident geese have taking over urban America. They can eat up to 3-5 pounds of grass a day and defecate just as much. Not only is geese poop gross, it’s super unsanitary and contains all different kinds of pathogens. Even worse, during nesting season, Canada Geese can get very aggressive to anyone who gets close to their nest. Once a nest has been established, your property will be home to a family of geese for next 3-4 months. That’s a lot of droppings!

During the 1900s, they were brought over to North America along with collies and sheep from Australia and New Zealand. With selective breeding, they became the breed know as Australian Shepherds today. They are truly America’s herding breed! Because of their intelligence and instinct to herd, they make a great dog for geese chasing without the worry of hurting a goose.
